🎄 December 2025 Newsletter – myCuppa
As December rolls around, it’s once again the busiest time of year for the myCuppa team. Customers are stocking up on extra coffee to see them through the festive season and summer holidays, while shipping networks slow under the weight of late‑November sales events (BFCM) and Christmas gift buying.
Surprisingly, this year’s peak freight season has been smoother than expected. Unlike previous years where parcels could take up to five extra days, AusPost reported shipping 1.1 million more parcels in the last week of November 2025 compared to the same period in 2024 — yet delays were less severe.
We’ll be taking a short, much‑needed break from 23rd to 30th December.
It’s our chance to step off the relentless cycle of roasting and shipping, recharge, and return refreshed. Please place your orders before 22nd December to ensure dispatch before the holiday pause.
Orders received after that date will ship on or after 30th December.
📊 2025 in Review
Looking back, 2025 has been one of the most challenging years in our 20‑year journey. I spent hours reflecting on highlights, but the reality is this year was defined more by headwinds than wins. That’s business — there are ups and downs — and we’re optimistic 2026 will bring brighter days.
-
Coffee prices: After three years of steady increases, 2025 saw prices accelerate to historic highs, stubbornly holding at elevated levels.
-
Supply shortages: Global coffee supply chains, especially in Australia, faced extreme shortages across all categories of raw/green coffee. Quality dropped as availability and stability collapsed.
-
Impact on myCuppa: Prices rose by 130% while supply shrank by 300% in just 12 months. We discontinued some coffees, particularly in the Organic segment, which we hope to reintroduce once harvests improve.
Volatility is nothing new in coffee, but 2025 pushed limits beyond anything we’ve seen before. Still, we remain committed to offering excellent value, freshly roasted coffee, and plenty of choice.
🚚 Shipping Realities
Shipping costs rose nearly 20% in 2025 — both inbound for raw coffee and outbound to your door. While AusPost publishes modest average increases (around 5%), the detail tells another story:
-
Metro zones shrinking: Capital city delivery radiuses are reduced, with new zones and postcode reclassifications driving higher costs.
-
Regional costs soaring: Sending 2kg of coffee to regional NSW now costs $21, compared to $15 just a few years ago.
-
Competitor struggles: Couriers Please has gone through upheaval in 2025 and is still rebuilding. Aramex continues to face franchise challenges. This leaves AusPost consolidating market share, with Amazon the only real competitor — though many brands avoid Amazon due to restrictive policies and fees.
The reality: “free shipping” doesn’t exist. Rising logistics costs are embedded into product pricing across all retailers. Unless new competition emerges, consumers will continue to bear the burden.
🌱 Looking Ahead to 2026
Despite our long‑held dream of a shipping revolution, 2026 won’t be the year it arrives. Our focus will remain on navigating raw coffee shortages, keeping prices in check, and maintaining the quality and variety you expect from us.
Through all the challenges, one thing hasn’t changed: our gratitude.
From all of us at myCuppa, thank you for your support throughout 2025. We wish you a joyful festive season and a prosperous 2026.
