Why Do We Sometimes Use Different Packaging?
The packaging of fresh roasted coffee is not easy or simple.
Our coffee is freshly roasted in the morning, packed within 20 minutes of roasting and dispatched in the afternoon.
It's a fast-paced process with no time to spare.
Some coffee companies only roast 1 or 2 days a week and other roast just 2 or 3 different coffees as their business is simpler such as wholesale to cafes.
At mycuppa, we produce more than 20+ coffees every day, five days a week with most of these coffees needing to be packed into 4 or 5 different styles of coffee bags.
There may be various times throughout the year when our freshly roasted coffee beans are packaged into a matte white bag with the roast date written in pencil instead of our normal custom mycuppa bags with date indicators on the front or back.
Please do not be alarmed or concerned - it's the correct and appropriate coffee from us.
A reason this may occur is due to significant problems we face with really long lead time from our coffee packaging supplier, who by the way is an Australian company, based in Australia, however, most of the bags are made in either Taiwan or South Korea.
Generally, lead times are up to and exceeding 18 weeks.
Whilst we do our best by allowing up to 20 weeks for the bags to arrive, we will never know at the time of ordering if it is going to take longer - even the supplier doesn't know.
So, you can see the problem we face with ordering and waiting. It's been the same way for more than 15 years with no improvements.
Sadly, coffee bags are not manufactured in Australia, otherwise the lead times would be much shorter.
Currently, most recyclable coffee bags have some negatives or compromises - like poor oxygen barrier protection or low thermal hydroscopic properties.
This means the coffee in the bag will not be as good compared to traditional coffee bag packaging that uses a metallised foil layer.
If you roasted coffee arrives in a bag that is different to what you are accustomed to receiving, then please don't worry as we only use equivalent quality packaging and the differences are just cosmetic.
