Roaster's Notes

La Nina weather patterns have resulted in excessive and persistent rains across Colombia for the last 12 months. This has adversely affected growing, harvesting and transport of coffee.

The current lot is from Tolima which is our favorite Department. Tolima coffees have elegant dark chocolate, plum and sweet tasting cups.

Our medium roast level displays a beautiful, classic Colombian flavor profile with a perfect balance of sweetness, acidity and complexity.

Brew Recipe

Brew recipes are only intended as a rough and general guide. Always adjust recipe parameters to suit your own personal taste.

Dose - 18 - 20 grams

Yield - 36 - 40 grams

Time - 29 to 32 seconds

Ratio - 1 over 2

Guide - Tolima is grown at higher altitude and will have a harder density. With harder beans you need to be mindful of the grind and dose accuracy for sufficient yield.
There is a delicious malic acid note here that will work wonderfully with dairy/alternatives added.

Delivery and Shipping

Not home or want to leave instructions ? Easy, please make sure you visit our cart page first before checking out to set Authority To Leave (Signature Not Required) and add your instructions.

Free standard shipping for orders over $120.

AusPost Express option available.

Shipped fast - orders received before 3pm sent same day.

Orders will ship via AusPost or one of our courier partners.

We care - all orders are packed into cartons to protect. Never satchels.

How shipping costs are calculated : Shipping charges vary and there is no flat rate. Carriers use destination (your postcode), the cubic volume (size) and the weight of a parcel to determine cost.

We try our best to offer the most competitive rates.

When will my parcel arrive : Unfortunately, it's not possible to supply accurate delivery times and we suggest checking the courier websites for the latest transit times.

We promise to get your order ready super-fast, nothing hangs around waiting.

Generally, we pick, pack and ship your order within an hour during our work shifts.

Tracking: You will receive notifications and tracking details via email as we pick and ship your order. Once we hand over your parcel to the courier they will keep you informed as the parcel makes the journey to you.

Why we are faster: We get it, nobody likes waiting for deliveries, especially coffee.

Our large size enables us to have direct access to a high-speed hub that bypasses Melbourne Parcel Facility - a source of delays. We can't guarantee all parcels will bypass MPF as this is subject to route plans by the courier.

It is possible to reduce 1-2 days from the transit time by helping your parcel arrive sooner.

Suitable for : Espresso, Stovetop, Drip/Filter, Percolator, Plunger

A super example of Tolima's finest coffees. Rich in cocoa, plum and sweet acids with a delicious dark chocolate finish.

Colombian Excelso Coffee Beans

Here, you can buy our 500g or 1kg packs of 100% Arabica Colombian Excelso coffee beans, medium-roasted and perfect for your milk-based espresso beverage.

This Colombia Excelso is such a delicious and well-rounded coffee.

They produce elegant and sweet-tasting flavours of roasted hazelnut and milk chocolate with a rich aftertaste of caramel and toffee.

Our mycuppa store offers three Colombian coffee experiences - this Excelso, a Supremo, and our certified Organic Excelso.

Excelso versus Supremo - what's the difference?

There are two main classifications of Colombian coffee - Supremo and Excelso.

Refrain from thinking momentarily that Colombian Supremo is superior to Colombia Excelso; it's just a physical size grading.

Supremo beans are more prominent as the screen size is 17 and up, while Excelso is smaller, with 14 - 16 screens.

Supremo does not mean it's better than Excelso in terms of flavour or cup performance.

They do roast differently because the Supremo requires more heat energy. Still, each lot of coffee has different density and moisture levels that affect the roasting process, not just physical size.

In our 20 years of experience, we prefer Excelso beans as smaller sizes often deliver exceptional sweet flavours, fruit complexity, and brighter acidity.

Excelso's offer more ZING in the cup with that sharper acidity that cuts through milk better.

However, Supremo beans (in a traditional sense) can exhibit bold flavours, especially black currant, which is powerful.

Supremo beans may also offer more body or mouthfeel compared to Excelso.

Nobody can say which might suit you better. It's best to try the coffee and make your up.

Our current Excelso lot is smoother and has a softer milk chocolate note.

The current Supremo lot is super-punch, bold, and strong, with intense black currant and spice in the cup.

They are entirely different-tasting coffees, yet they both come from Colombia.

Our certified Organic Colombia coffee is also different from the Excelso and Supremo.

That is precisely what Colombian coffees are about - plenty of flavour and cup diversity.

About Our Colombian coffees

Everyone knows that Colombia produces some of the world's finest coffees.

They are also becoming the most expensive since the pandemic and adverse weather-affected shortages.

There are more than half a million coffee farmers in Columbia, and the great thing about having so many farmers is that most coffees are grown and harvested on smaller-sized lots instead of the large estates of other coffee-growing countries.

Colombian coffee farmers can apply more care to their smaller holdings.

Another attractive feature of Colombian coffee is the vast geographical area where it is grown. This means the coffee seasons in each region are spaced across a full calendar year.

We source between 6 to 8 different lots each year. These lots come from other growing areas or regions.

Inza

Our Excelso from the Inza region can produce intense and fruity Colombian beans.

Coffees from Inza stand out in the cup. They have sparkling acidity and a crisp, clean flavour in milk, making them ideal choices for most home espresso machine users.

Inza produces a medium to bold body and a flavour profile of chocolate, citrus fruit, berries, and currants.

Popayan

Popayan is another highly regarded district in Colombia that is well known for providing exceptional Supremo and Excelso coffees.

Our coffees come from the Department of Cauca and have a screen size 15+.

The coffee exhibits a soft, sweet flavour of honey and toffee with a crisp apple acidity, a syrupy body, and a creamy cocoa finish.

Our Popayam produces a long dark chocolate finish with notes of black currant and a strong flavour.

Huila

Generally, it is the most available region for coffee as it covers a large growing area.

The coffees from Huila are softer and more balanced, with milk chocolate and nuts as the primary attributes.

Narino

Coffees from Narino are more challenging to source. Located in the northern part of Colombia, it's usually the first region to produce coffee.

Narino is one of the highest-elevation areas for Colombian coffee.

The air is thinner and colder.

Higher altitudes and colder climates result in coffee cherries ripening slower and developing more significant levels of sweetness and acidity.

Narino coffees are complex with intense sweetness and the most beautiful acidity in Colombia.

Narino is only sometimes available; however, it's bloody fantastic.

Tolima

Saving the best till last, we love Narino and Tolima; they are our favourite areas or departments.

Some of the sweetest and most delicious coffees we have ever tasted are from Tolima, generating intense layers of chocolate, the most prized dark cocoa.

Only available at certain times of the year.

mycuppa uses a full cast iron coffee roaster for maximum flavor and sweetness

Why our coffees are different

Our custom SUPA-ROASTA is a one-of-a-kind, fully cast-iron platform using the most advanced computer controls for ultra-precise roasting of the best-tasting coffees.
These days, complete cast-iron roasting systems are extremely rare. Only cast-iron platforms can impart that highly desirable soft, moist heat into the coffee beans.
Would the best chefs and BBQ experts cook their culinary delights on Stainless, Alloy or Mild Steel or Air ?
Nope, neither would we.
mycuppa's SUPA-ROASTA creates coffees with smooth, rich, high-flavoured tastes, full and syrupy body, fine acidity and of course our trademark long, sweet finish.
Nothing compares.

how we roast your coffee

Roasting coffee is a precise science. These days, computer profiles perform most of the automated tasks for controlling a roast profile. However, through better quality control via tasting, testing and optimization, we can make a big difference to the finished product through setting special parameters.

mycuppa explains the delicate balance when roasting coffees for exceptional flavors

See how our coffees are roasted so beautifully

Whole bean coffee stays fresher for much longer than ground coffees

Ground coffee is poor value

Whole beans are the only way to enjoy freshly roasted coffee.

The moment coffee beans are ground, most of the essential, active compounds in ground coffee oxidize rapidly, losing vitality, aroma, flavour and body.

Ground coffee barely lasts 15 minutes; even sealed packs lose more than 80% of the critical essence in 2 weeks.

Unfortunately, once you open and close that pack, it's game over, and the ground coffee continues to stale at 20x the rate of whole beans inside of a sealed, unopened pack.

If you love coffee, please don't waste money buying pre-ground packs; you only get a small part of the wonderful coffee experience.

Buy a decent grinder and purchase whole beans; it makes a huge difference in aroma, flavour, and enjoyment.

Nice work

After trying a few different online coffee brands, none of them can match this company in consistency and freshness. Price is also pretty good as well.
