Roaster's Notes

You may be wondering why Decaf coffees are so expensive.
Well, there's a good reason, and it has to do with double shipping and processing before it's even roasted.
Swiss Water is a patented caffeine removal process without dangerous or harsh chemicals.
There is also the Mountain Water process that achieves the same outcome - removing most of the caffeine without the use of chemicals.
The Swiss Water Decaf company employ some of the world's best raw coffee buyers who travel the globe evaluating and selecting grades of coffee.
It is a widely held belief among consumers that Decaf necessitates inferior quality, but this is a misconception.
The opposite is true: Decaf coffees are some of the best grades.
With the Swiss Water Process, all raw coffee ships by sea from coffee farms around the globe to a central facility in Canada for processing.
The end product is a raw coffee with around 99% of the caffeine removed.
Raw Decaf coffee (unroasted) travels from Canada to country importers, selling Swiss Water Decaf to local or domestic coffee companies.
Local coffee companies purchase raw Decaf coffees to roast as they deem suitable for their supply levels.
Be mindful of Shelf Life.
In our long experience with Decaf coffees, we know the shelf life of Decaf is shorter than regular coffees.
It's not just our roasted Decafs but a universal phenomenon across all Decafs, regardless of whether it is EA, Sugar Cane, Swiss Water or Mountain Water.
How much shorter - nobody can ever say. It's about a third.
Of course, it depends upon many constantly changing factors, such as ambient temperature.
The brew or extraction method also makes a difference.
Espresso is more sensitive to freshness and vitality than long-contact brews such as Plunger.
If you use Decaf for espresso, we suggest buying enough for 60 days, perhaps a shorter period in the heat of summer.
Naturally, the quality of taste depends upon individual preferences - some people are fussy, others not. It's just a guide, not a fixed rule.
We chose the Colombian lots because of the sweet-tasting flavour and cup complexity.

Brew Recipe

Brew recipes are only intended as a rough and general guide. Always adjust recipe parameters to suit your own personal taste.

Dose - 29 grams

Yield - 36 grams

Time - 28 seconds

Ratio - 1 : 1.8

Guide - Decaf coffees can swell or bloom at greater rates than conventional coffees. This is point to be aware of in case you end up choking the extraction. We suggest starting with a slightly coarser grind or dosing a fraction lower to avoid the choke condition.

Orders will ship via AusPost or one of our courier partners.

We care - all orders are packed into cartons to protect. Never satchels.

How shipping costs are calculated : Shipping charges vary and there is no flat rate. Carriers use destination (your postcode), the cubic volume (size) and the weight of a parcel to determine cost.

We try our best to offer the most competitive rates.

When will my parcel arrive : Unfortunately, it's not possible to supply accurate delivery times and we suggest checking the courier websites for the latest transit times.

We promise to get your order ready super-fast, nothing hangs around waiting.

It is possible to reduce 1-2 days from the transit time by helping your parcel arrive sooner.

By far the best-tasting Decaf in Australia. Put it to the test.

Description

Only the best will do.

We have been roasting the highest quality Swiss Water Decaf coffee beans for over 17 years.

Often, we wonder why we are roasting so much decaf every day compared to many other coffee companies. Most other brands roast decaf maybe once a week or fortnight.

Our Decaf flies out the door so fast that we can barely keep up.

It's been that way for a long time. We do a disproportionate volume of Decaf coffee beans, perhaps the most in Australia. It must be because of the quality.

Our Swiss Water Decaf Coffee Beans

You can trust the supreme freshness of our roasted Swiss Water decaf coffees because we roast that coffee every day.

Did you know that roasted decaf coffees do not last as long as traditional coffees? That means roasted Decaf will only remain at peak condition for about 60% of the time compared to conventional coffees. This is even when they are inside sealed, unopened packs.

Our customers have described our Swiss Water decaf coffee beans as "tasting better than real coffee but without caffeine".

How the Decaf is sold and packaged

We only sell our Swiss Water Colombian Decaf in the 500g pack size. Our packaging systems for all Decaf coffees are expressly set up for 500g bags only. This is so we can efficiently service the volume. Anything else would compromise the quality.

myCuppa Colombian single-origin Decaf is a 100% Arabica that is certified Swiss Water Processed (SWP). It is available as a whole bean medium roasted coffee. If you require ground Decaf, please ensure you select the correct grind option on the page before adding the product to your cart.

Our Swiss Water Colombian Decaf is an excellent choice for espresso style, plunger, stovetop, and even filter coffees. It's such a versatile coffee; it suits almost every brew application.

The key to achieving this is by selecting the best Colombian Decaf on the market with absolutely no compromises. We are known for producing the best roasted Decaf in Australia, and we back that claim up by delivering the most delicious tasting Decaf available.

About Swiss Water Chemical Free Decaf Coffee.

There are two main chemical free Decaf processes. You can choose from Swiss Water Decaf Coffee beans from Canada, or Mountain Water decaf from Mexico.

In our mycuppa store, we sell both types of Chemical-Free Decaf coffees, and our products are the best available in each method.

The raw and unroasted coffee undergoes a unique patented process that eliminates caffeine while preserving its delectable flavours.

For Swiss Water decafs, all caffeine removal is processed in a quality-controlled facility in Canada. It is done using carefully selected raw coffees from the coffee bean origin.

In our case, we have chosen a stunning and delicious Colombian for the Swiss Water Process.

Once processed at the Swiss Water plant, the raw Decaf coffee is transported to Australia. It is then stored in our specially engineered, climate-controlled environment before roasting.

It's one of the best-tasting Decafs on the market, for sure. Our Swiss water decaf coffee clients are very loyal. So it must be delicious.

This premium bean is sourced coffee from one of the best farms in Colombia. It is rich, smooth, and creamy, with a whole chocolate finish.

Important features to be aware of with roasted Decaf coffees:

Decaf coffees are significantly darker in the green (or raw) bean state than traditional coffee beans.

That means the roasting process starts from a darker shade of raw Decaf than conventional coffees.

Roasting raw Decaf coffees will produce a darker shade of the physical product than a standard coffee.

There may also be a development of a light sheen or spot of oil on the outside surface of the roasted Decaf coffee beans.

Don't worry or be alarmed; it's not over-roasted and not stale—this is a common condition for freshly roasted Decaf coffees.

Once roasted, Decaf coffees may appear very dark (almost black) and generally will emit a sheen of oil as early as 1-3 days after roasting. That contrasts with standard coffees, which may last 20 or more days without showing a light oil spot or sheen (depending upon roast depth and profile).

A light sheen of oil or moisture on the outside of roasted Decaf coffee beans is a natural cycle due to the caffeine removal altering the coffee bean's cell structure and moisture content.

Not everyone can roast Decaf properly.

Most coffee roasters need help to roast Decaf as they only do it sometimes.

With raw coffee beans starting darker in colour, Decaf has a different moisture and density than traditional natural coffees.

Some coffee roasters need help to profile their Decaf coffees' roasting accurately.

Generally, many roasting companies end up over-roasting their Decaf as they apply the same profile as non-Decaf or don't care and treat Decaf as unnecessary.

Over-roasting Decaf ends up with a bitter and ashy taste.

Our roasting equipment has finer control of air and temperature than all other roasting platforms.

It enables us to produce a wonderfully soft heat to suit the gentler decaf roasting process.

NOTE: we reserve the right to change our coffee bag packaging without notice.

Our Swiss water decaffeinated coffee beans are freshly roasted daily. Then shipped each afternoon (or the next day if we have run out of freshly roasted coffee beans).

mycuppa uses a full cast iron coffee roaster for maximum flavor and sweetness

Why our coffees are different

Our custom SUPA-ROASTA is a one-of-a-kind, fully cast-iron platform using the most advanced computer controls for ultra-precise roasting of the best-tasting coffees.
These days, complete cast-iron roasting systems are extremely rare. Only cast-iron platforms can impart that highly desirable soft, moist heat into the coffee beans.
Would the best chefs and BBQ experts cook their culinary delights on Stainless, Alloy or Mild Steel or Air ?
Nope, neither would we.
mycuppa's SUPA-ROASTA creates coffees with smooth, rich, high-flavoured tastes, full and syrupy body, fine acidity and of course our trademark long, sweet finish.
Nothing compares.

how we roast your coffee

Roasting coffee is a precise science. These days, computer profiles perform most of the automated tasks for controlling a roast profile. However, through better quality control via tasting, testing and optimization, we can make a big difference to the finished product through setting special parameters.

mycuppa explains the delicate balance when roasting coffees for exceptional flavors

See how our coffees are roasted so beautifully

Whole bean coffee stays fresher for much longer than ground coffees

Ground coffee is poor value

Whole beans are the only way to enjoy freshly roasted coffee.

The moment coffee beans are ground, most of the essential, active compounds in ground coffee oxidize rapidly, losing vitality, aroma, flavour and body.

Ground coffee barely lasts 15 minutes; even sealed packs lose more than 80% of the critical essence in 2 weeks.

Unfortunately, once you open and close that pack, it's game over, and the ground coffee continues to stale at 20x the rate of whole beans inside of a sealed, unopened pack.

If you love coffee, please don't waste money buying pre-ground packs; you only get a small part of the wonderful coffee experience.

Buy a decent grinder and purchase whole beans; it makes a huge difference in aroma, flavour, and enjoyment.

Chocolate in a decaf - who would have guessed

Now when the Doc gave me the bad news, give up coffee, he also said I could drink Decaf. For the last few months I have tried many different Decafs from well known brands and none compare to this one from mycuppa. It has a nice chocolate taste that is tasty and perfect for me now I can't drink standard coffees.
