mycuppa November 2015 Newsletter
now shipping express to NZ
Customers in NZ can now order premium fresh roasted coffees from our mycuppa.com.au store, and their order will be express freight straight from our roasting warehouse to their door.
Generally, the parcel should arrive in about two business days, which is very quick.
How does it work?
We continue to optimize our portfolio of coffees, and rather than saving our smallholdings for special occasions, we have introduced the Pre-Order feature to the store.
It is also approaching the silly season for the raw coffee market as some of the primary crops at origin will not flow through until after Easter, so we have to make do with our raw holdings as best we can.
Some rare and limited coffees in the warehouse are in small quantities - in volumes as little as 120kg raw, so these coffees cannot be added to our regular list (even seasonal is too long).
Historically, we would roast these coffees when a request of a decent quantity would come through from a cafe or private label/contract roast customer.
We would roast a bit extra, and these packs would be placed into pooled Roaster's Choice products for the next day.
For a long time now, I have been unhappy with this approach as it seemed our Mycuppa customers needed to catch up on some truly spectacular offerings.
The paradox is always about the difficulty in sourcing and not wanting to use it.
I am a borderline hoarder, my dear wife tells me.
We have also been treating our subscription customers to stellar coffees, and it makes sense to open them up to our customers using a more controlled and manageable method.
Some of our coffees will be listed as pre-order with defined dates.
When you purchase a pre-order product, your entire order will be shipped once the pre-order date arrives.
This means that any items not pre-order items on your order will also be sent.
We always use fresh coffee for non-pre-order items as our stock rotates quickly.
We will run with this concept for small and limited holdings - offering our mycuppa customers the first option - essentially flipping the demand cycle in the opposite direction.
When writing this article, we have run through our first few days of pre-order on the magnificent India Mysore Nuggets Extra Bold.
This coffee has been a giant slayer in terms of a surprise package, and we have already roasted it far more frequently than originally planned this last week.
Our Fairtrade Organic holdings are also quite low, so you will see that some of these holdings may be switched to pre-order status as we conserve the raw stock.
As the person who picks and roasts the coffees - let me tell you straight up that
Pre-Order coffees are worth waiting for.
Additional Parcel Options
From the 2nd November 2015, Australia Post introduced a new feature called " Safe Drop " in the delivery options for parcels.
This feature is not available for individual selection on the mycuppa.com.au checkout, so we still require your comments and instructions as authority to act; however, we have already incorporated this function within our operations as the default action.
According to research, approximately 49% of customers have preferred Safe Drop during Monday to Friday business hours delivery.
Previously, many of our customers took advantage of the existing Authority To Leave feature via our Delivery Instructions/Comments that enabled your parcel to be left at the premises without requiring a Signature on Delivery.
Authority To Leave is handy for those people who may not be present when the delivery is performed and enables the parcel to be left in a convenient location on the premises, removing the need to attend the LPO to collect your parcel.
All consignments we now create on the eParcel system will enable the option of Safe Drop.
Please don't worry that your order will be at risk!
Once your parcel has left our warehouse, the tracking notification AusPost uses to communicate transit updates gives you the link to MyPost.
Within MyPost, you will see links to allow a Safe Drop and a selectable list of pre-defined instructions.
MyPost also offers a few additional options that enable you to alter how and where the final delivery point is performed.
If you do not take up the AusPost invitation within MyPost to select a Safe Drop, the default behaviour is to require a Signature upon Delivery as per standard practice.

Monsoon Peaberry
Stocks of Monsoon Malabar AA have run out in Australia.
More is due in at the end of this year.
We have a very small amount of Malabar AA remaining, but I expect this will be gone within a fortnight.
As a replacement, we scooped up some very nice Monsoon Peaberry (a.k.a. buttons) that will take over as an interim coffee for a couple of months until the new shipment of Malabar AA arrives.
